> Single Mode – with a higher transmission rate and providing fifty times more distance than multi mode. Single mode fibre cable is ideally suited to providing 10 Gigabit Ethernet over extended distances.

> Multi Mode – more cost effective than single mode, multi mode cabling is typically used for Gigabit and 10 Gigabit installations over shorter distances.

> Internal / External - cables for internal use may need to comply with fire and safety regulations.
